1937 General Motors Cast Copper or Bronze Promotional Ashtray. 4 circumference x ½ tall. Long before the Jacob Javits Convention Center was built, the New York Auto Show was held annually at the famed Waldorf-Astoria Hotel. 83 years later and auto show's serve the exact same purpose.

Based on the included original box, it is clear that this promotional piece was manufactured for the 1937 New York Auto Show. A 1937 Buick automobile is shown on the ashtray front (take a look at that impressive grill). The motto cast into this piece around the circular edges reads. GENERAL MOTORS is cast in the roadbed below the Buick and above the Serves America.

The back side of the ashtray has a cast label which reads. DESIGNED AND PRODUCED BY TERNSTEDT DIV.

Box front has printed: "GM WALDORF SHOW 1937". Box back has printed: DESIGNED AND PRODUCED BY TERNSTEDT DIVISION GENERAL MOTORS CORP. At some point this ashtray was polished. I've had it nearly 20 years and have done nothing to it. A great piece of American and General Motors automobile history! Having the Original Box makes this 83 Year Old piece extremely Rare!
