BMW 525i ART MUSEUM EDITION AUTOMOBILE - Art Esther Mahlangu. Very rare BMW 525i model from the Art Cars Collection. Designed by the artist Esther Mahlangu. The artist Esther Mahlangu from South Africa is one of only 18 artists (and the only woman among them) to have been commissioned by BMW to design one of their Art Cars since 1975. Mahlangu designed this BMW 525i model in 1991 with geometric patterns inspired by her heritage, the Ndebele tribe, in order bring her work into the collective consciousness of the art world. By painting the BMW 525i she has passed on her tribe's traditional means of expression to an object of contemporary technology. In order to develop a feel for the completely new medium, she initially painted the door of another BMW before beginning with the design of the Art Car.

Within one week she had transformed the car into a masterpiece of African Ndebele art. The car was displayed in 1994 in the National Museum of Women in Arts in Washington, DC, said Richard B. Woodward, founding curator of the African Collection of the VMFA.

The car is in original box, never removed or displayed. The box is in very good condition as shown on my pictures. Own today piece of BMW art car limited edition collection.
