USS UNITED STATES ORIGINAL MONOGRAM MODELS BOX ART PAINTING. By NOTED ARTIST JOHN STEEL 1981. VERY RARE, ONLY ONE MADE. This is a absolutely stunning fine art original painting in.

Water-based gouache on Crescent cold-press illustration board. This painting was custom made for a model kit box cover by well known artist John Steel for Monogram Models co.

Marine, combat, Ships & Boats, Skin Diving, Religious themes and finally wildlife & Nature subjects. His fine art and prints are still found in galleries today. In the 60's, he did box cover art for model kits in his special signature style. He made many beautifully executed box art covers for Monogram and Revell Models at that time. Unfortunately, the usual practice of printers/publishers was NOT to save the original artist painting once print films were made much like the now highly coveted vintage Pulp art paintings done for adventure magazines and book covers. That is why John Steel's surviving cover art paintings are so very rare and hard to find today!

John Steel's distinctive art style influenced an entire generation of fine art artists who's work today is also highly sought after. The internet has much information on John Steel's paintings and I encourage you to please check it out.

His talent and subject matter is timeless. (image size) and 32" X 27" overall frame size with the original 1960's custom wood frame with off white single mat and archival glass. It is still covered in original paper in back with a vintage Monogram sticker. Painting is in EX condition with no fading or chipping and is still very vibrant, has wonderfull colors and looks amazing under lights as you can see in the photos! This painting as well as all others in my collection are guaranteed Vintage Original and Authentic.
